Maybe We Deserve to Be Ripped Off By Bush's Billionaires
    By Matt Taibbi, RollingStone.com.
    Posted February 20, 2007.

While America obsessed about Brittany's shaved head, Bush offered a budget that offers $32.7 billion in tax cuts to the Wal-Mart family alone, while cutting $28 billion from Medicaid.

    The rest is here.

    G'night and enjoy yourselves!

Yeah, what ono said, Mme. Salix. The old night crew was a lot of fun. And I may not comment, but I still read BabAcad.

    i checked out your pic...

    and quickly looked away

(it was a case of having too)

  8. Yeah, the pic is pretty heinous. It's the only one I can find that was on that roll of film (thank god). I remember scaring an old lady at the beach. She did the most perfect double-take I've ever seen.

Just felt like making a few people laugh. Hope it worked.

  16. "Outrageous" Armed Raid on Iraqi Journalists' Union

The International Federation of Journalists today
condemned as "outrageous and inexcusable" the action of
American soldiers who carried out an armed raid on the
Baghdad offices of the Iraq Syndicate of Journalists.
United States soldiers caused destruction and havoc last
night when they broke into the offices of the Syndicate,
which is a member of the IFJ's global union network. They
destroyed furniture, ransacked the offices, arrested
state-employed security guards, and confiscated 10
computers and 15 small electricity generators destined for
    the families of killed journalists.

  34. If Bush were CEO, he'd be fired, says business executive Michael Roston
    Published: Thursday February 22, 2007

Comparing the United States to a troubled private corporation, a business executive in Salon this morning says that if President Bush were the CEO of a private company, its board would send him packing.

Warren Hellman founded Hellman & Friedman, a private equity investment firm, and was the youngest employee ever appointed partner at Lehman Brothers. Noting that Bush is the first president with a Master's degree in Business Administration, he writes in Salon that "if the United States were a company, it would be a troubled one," pointing to Bush's shortcomings in managing the national budget, its poor warfighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, and other crises.

  36. Another US helicopter down, British bases bombed dpa German Press Agency
    Published: Thursday February 22, 2007

Baghdad- Another US helicopter has crashed in Iraq,
    Al-Arabiya television reports said Thursday.
The reports quoted witnesses as saying that a helicopter had
crashed north of Baquba, 60 kilometres north of Baghdad. None of the
crew were hurt, according to the reports.

If the US military command in Baghdad confirms the report, this
would be the eighth helicopter lost by the US military in Iraq within
    the last month.

US General William Caldwell said that a helicopter attacked by
insurgents north of Baghdad on Wednesday was hit by bullets and
    rocket-propelled grenades.

US media had recently reported that insurgents in Iraq had changed
their tactics to step up rocket attacks on helicopters.

Baquba is a Sunni insurgent stronghold.

An Iraqi security source said Thursday that two British military
bases in Basra, which has a predominantly Shiite population, had been
bombarded with rocket-propelled grenades in the past 24 hours.

The two British bases, located in downtown Basra and in the city's
Shat al-Arab hotel, were bombed Wednesday night and early Thursday
    morning, the source added.

EXCLUSIVE: REP. MAXINE WATERS ANNOUNCES INTENTION TO WITHDRAW CO-SPONSORSHIP OF HOLT ELECTION REFORM BILL!
Calls for a Return to Paper Ballots During Commemorative MLK, Jr., Keynote Address in Santa Cruz!
California Congresswoman is First of Bill's 192 Co-Sponsors to Pull Support Amid Heavy Criticism of Legislation by Election Integrity Advocates...

During a question and answer period after a speech at a Black History Month event last night sponsored by the University of California Santa Cruz, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) announced that she plans to withdraw her co-sponsorship of Rep. Rush Holt's Election Reform Legislation, (HR 811).

Citing the bill's failure to require paper ballots, allowing for uncounted "paper trails" instead, Waters replied to a question of mine that she would be "glad to withdraw [her] name from the bill" when she returns to Washington on Tuesday in the wake of recent conversations she's had in California with Election Integrity advocates. The announcement drew an enthusiastic round of applause from those in attendance at Tuesday night's 23rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Convocation at UCSC which was keynoted by Waters.

Waters would be the first of the bill's current 192 House co-sponsors to withdraw her support. (The full list of current co-sponsors is available here.) Given her leadership on civil rights and election-related issues over the years, Waters's move could be significant in the current debate which has seen Democrats and a number of their public-advocacy group supporters use the issue of civil rights, ironically enough, to support the continued use of DRE/touch-screen systems as allowed by the Holt legislation.
