Military Stretched Thin

Today on CNN, Barbara Starr had a report about how Gen Peter Pace reported to the Sec of Defense and Capitol Hill that says the risk is now "significant," that's the word, "significant," of the US Military being able to meet its obligation if in fact a third crisis now were to break out.

Yeah it is working for me! I don't know what the problem was yesterday :(

Is Sam's blog gone altogether?
I went there and it had not been updated for 2 days.

My speech went really well. Everyone cried which is as it should be. I posted a copy on my Obama blog.

Your blog looks really nice! Great work!

Hug and Kisses

Body Found Bound, Gagged In Brooklyn Apartment

NEW YORK -- Police on Monday said they made a grisly
discovery: the body of a man with a plastic bag over his
head, his hands and feet bound, inside a ransacked
Brooklyn apartment.

Police busted down the door of the Flatbush apartment at
around 2 p.m. after members of his family said they couldn't
get in touch with him for several days.

Police said the man, 57, might have been killed overnight.
A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Evening to you and NC. Shell and Conbo are on Sam's blog and lilith.

Took me 15 minutes to clean the snow off my car and another 15 minutes to get it out of the parking space because they plowed a bunch of snow behind my car. Had to rock it back and forth and then gun it to get it out.

Hey toniD, CB.

Came down heavy at first then rain & light snow here. Looks
like the plows were out but
they didn't have much to do.
Ended up with wet streets
and a dirty wet slushy mix
close to the curb. Watch your
step...

Young Man Killed In Harlem Nightclub Shooting

A 23-year-old man died Saturday morning in a Harlem nightclub shooting.

Police say they were called to a club on 106th Street and Second Avenue after reports of a fight.

When they got to the scene they found the body of Rory Forehand, who had been shot once in the torso. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

So far, no arrests have been made and police have not mentioned any suspects.

Police say witnesses are not talking.

The latest Abramoff casualty. “The top aide to convicted former Rep. Bob Ney pleaded guilty Monday to federal conspiracy charges,” admitting he had accepted “a stream of things of value from Abramoff and his lobbyists, including overseas and domestic trips, meals and drinks, golf, tickets to professional sporting events and concerts, and monetary and in-kind campaign contributions from Abramoff.” TPM Muckraker digs through the charging documents, and finds nuggets like this one, on how Ney dangled lobbyist goodies over the head of his staff:

Ney controlled the receipt of things of value by his personal office staff and the House Administration Committee staff as a way to reward and punish staff by approving their receipt of things of value or by taking things of value and redistributing them to others.

Here's some economic news:

Dollar sags ahead of US economic data Mon Feb 26, 5:19 PM ET

The dollar traded mainly lower Monday as the market braced for fresh data expected to show a slowdown in the US economy, and monitored tensions over Iran's nuclear ambitions, dealers said.

The euro rose to 1.3185 dollars at 2200 GMT from 1.3170 dollars late in New York on Friday, after earlier reaching a high of 1.3199 dollars, its highest level since January 3.

The dollar fell to 120.59 yen, from 120.98 yen on Friday.

Jordan Eburne at PNC Bank said the dollar was under pressure "ahead of this week's slew of consumer data that is expected to show a slowdown in the US economy."

The market awaited data on consumer confidence and durable goods orders Tuesday, and several reports this week on the housing market.

On Wednesday, US growth for the fourth quarter is expected to be downgraded to 2.3 percent from the 3.5 percent first estimate, analysts predicted.

The market was also affected by concerns about geopolitics, specifically Iran.

"The dollar is facing moderate pressure as players are cautious about holding long positions on the dollar as the Iran situation has become shaky again," said Ryohei Muramatsu with Commerz Bank.

Dell to Sell Linux PCs
Customers convince Dell to plan a new line of Linux-loaded desktop and notebook computers.
Todd R. Weiss, Computerworld
Monday, February 26, 2007 10:00 AM PST

After collecting some 1,800 new product and service ideas from IT users and customers using an online "suggestion box," Dell Inc. has announced that it's taking the user suggestions seriously and will soon debut and sell a new line of certified, user-ready Linux-loaded desktop and laptop computers.

The Dell IdeaStorm Web site, where customers and other IT enthusiasts can offer recommendations about future Dell products and configurations that they'd want to buy, was started on Feb. 16 by CEO Michael Dell, who is looking for ways to re-energize the company's sales and financial performance after several disappointing quarters.

One post that got a lot of interest was the idea that Dell bring back a reasonably priced laptop computer that runs Linux.
